How to get here
Skåbu is located towards Jotunheimen, midway between Oslo and Trondheim. The driving time from Oslo is approx. 3 hours 15 minutes. Skåbu is closer to Oslo than you might think.
The mountain village sits at the top of a side valley up from Vinstra in Gudbrandsdalen, and is considered Northern Europe’s highest village community.
From Vinstra, take Fv 255 to Skåbu. The trip takes approx. 25 minutes. Alternatively, take highway 255 from Lillehammer – through Gausdal and Espedalen – to Skåbu. This is the fastest way from Oslo.
Jotunheimvegen from Skåbu to Valdresflya, perhaps Norway’s most beautiful tourist route, is an excellent starting point for a Besseggen hike. From Skåbu to Glitterheim and Sjoa there is also a direct route during the summer months. During the same period, you can drive the Peer Gynt road between Skåbu and Gålå.
